This is a sophisticated new take on an old classic. I thought it would be a great Valentine dinner idea. Considering Valentine's Day is on a Monday this year, this is a quick and easy recipe you can throw together after work. You can make the jam ahead of time, and then you just have to assemble the sandwiches, toast them, and voila! These sandwiches are so rich and satisfying you really don't even need anything on the side, except a glass of red wine!
You will need:
-strawberry jam (Sweet as Candy: Homemade Strawberry jam recipe)
-fontina cheese
-sliced sandwich bread
-butter
-sage leaves
-butter two slices of bread for each sandwich
-layer two sage leaves in the shape of a heart (trim if necessary) and place in the center of one slice of buttered bread
-place slices of cheese on the non buttered side of one slice of bread
-spread jam on the non buttered side of the other slice of bread
-heat a pan to med/high with a little butter, toast your sandwich for a few minutes on each side until golden brown and cheese has melted
-I served mine with red wine
delish!
