Wall decals have been popping up all over lately.  At first they were mostly seen in children's rooms or nurseries.  Well, wall decals have come a long way!  Now we are seeing them in bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens and entry ways.  And we are seeing them applied to contemporary and traditional rooms.  They are an easy and fairly inexpensive way to makeover any space and add a focal point to any room.  Wall decals can be used like artwork, and are a great way to personalize your space.

Artwork Groupings

Is your room lacking drama? Everytime you walk into your living room, dining room, bedroom (...you get the point) you feel like something is missing but you can't quite put your finger on it? Ask yourself if the room has a true focal point.

If you want to create instant drama in any space a good way to acheive this is by adding a grouping of artwork. This look, whether acheived in nuetrals or vibrant colors, adds an instant focal point. Think outside the box. Don't be afraid to mix art with objects. If you're placing this grouping over a piece of furniture or a fireplace, don't forget to incorporate the items on the table top or mantel in the overall design.

Remember: Have fun with it! Hang a few pieces and the look is complete, or continuously add to it to create an evolving design.

DIY "Alphabet Artwork"

I have seen tons of artwork lately made from words and letters.  I decided to give it a try myself!  I wanted to make one for a children's room personalized with the child's name.  Here was my inspiration:

Here's what I did!

First you will need card stock.  I used white and cut it to an 8"x10" piece.  Then I chose to do the name "Martin" in brown and the rest of the letters in lime and kelly green markers.  Also a ruler, a pencil and 1"alphabet stencils.

I lightly marked in pencil a  grid of 8 rows of equal blocks of 1 1/4" across x 1 1/8".  Then I layed out the name first and colored it in, centering the letters in the boxes.

Then starting with"A" I filled in the rest of the blocks with letters in the two shades of green.

Finally, I erased the pencil lines and framed it!
